The Lakes Region Model Railroad Museum (LRMRM) is on the verge of an exciting new chapter. After years of development and volunteer-driven creation, we are preparing to transition from a start-up project into a fully operating museum. To guide us through this transformation, we are seeking an Executive Director with museum leadership experience, strategic vision, and a passion for community engagement.

About the Role:

The Executive Director will lead LRMRM's transition from creation to operation, overseeing every aspect of organizational development, visitor experience, and long-term sustainability. This role offers the unique opportunity to shape the identity of a museum dedicated to interactivity, STEM education, and family-friendly exploration in a one-of-a-kind setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Finalize and oversee museum readiness, including layout completion, visitor flow, and landscaping

• Ensure technology and software provide a smooth, interactive experience for multiple users

• Develop and launch a public schedule, membership program, and PR/communications strategy

• Create and implement an encompassing marketing plan

• Lead market research to align programming with community and visitor interests

• Establish a long-term strategic plan, including funding and donor development

• Design and implement STEM-based educational programming for year-round engagement

• Recruit and onboard a permanent General Manager to carry the museum forward

• Work with the current board and cultivate a future board that governs an operational Museum

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated museum leadership experience (required)

• Expertise in program management, marketing/communications, operations, and team leadership

• Strong background in strategic planning and fundraising

• Mechanical and electronic aptitude

• Ability to inspire, organize, and engage volunteers

• Creative, adaptable, and motivated to transform vision into reality
