Bowie State University, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of History and Government invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in European History. We seek candidates who are qualified to teach courses in western and eastern European history and welcome applicants teaching from a multi-cultural perspective. Successful candidate will begin teaching in August 2023.
This position is supported on campus, located in Bowie, Maryland, and directly reports to the Chairman of the History and Government in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will teach several specialized courses including The History of Britain, The French Revolution and Napoleon, Twentieth Century Europe, as well as courses in World Civilization.
Responsibilities include teaching twelve (12) undergraduate hours (4 courses) per semester; engages in multiple service-related activities such as student mentoring and service at the departmental, school, college, professional, and community levels; and actively engages in scholarly or creative activities.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in History with a specialization in European History. Teaching experience at the university undergraduate level and experience in virtual instruction is preferred. Experience teaching in a diverse environment recommended. Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and student mentoring. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level, evidence of academic scholarship and research, ability/potential to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals, the potential for securing external grants, and evidence of building community partnerships.
Conditions of Employment: The successful candidate is expected to have research accomplishments and a Ph.D. in the discipline of history, at the time the job offer is made.
Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and verification of credentials. Proof of US citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment will be required prior to employment (Immigration Control Act of 1986).
