About Department of History at Kansas State University
Kansas State University is recognized as a R1 Doctoral University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, and the Department of History supports its faculty’s pursuit of a research regimen that is commensurate with that status. We offer B.A., B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. In collaboration with the Department Political Science, we also offer M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in the interdisciplinary Security Studies program.
Our 14 full-time faculty members have written award-winning books and articles on research topics ranging from the military in ancient China to public health in Latin America to the grasslands of the Great Plains. While we commend research and are proud of our successful graduate programs, we also emphasize and prioritize undergraduate teaching. The majority of our classes are small, which means that our students get plenty of attention, and undergraduate history majors are assigned to a dedicated History advisor to help them navigate their way to successful completion of their degree.
